The word “Advent” means “coming.” As we enter into the Christmas season this year, Advent invites us as individuals and as a church into a period of reflection, prayer, and anticipation of the hope, peace, love, and joy that Christ’s entrance into the world brings.
This Sunday, we lit the first candle on the Advent Wreath. While Christmas trees may fill our homes with anticipation and excitement, lighting a candle on the Advent wreath is a visual reminder of the light, life, and hope Jesus’ incarnation brings into a dark, broken world, wearied with the struggles of life and sin.
